Crunchbase alternatives for funding data
Crunchbase's funding API is gated to paid Business and Enterprise plans. If you want self-serve startup funding data through an API, the question becomes which of the reachable providers is actually correct. Every provider here was called on the same companies and graded against source-verified rounds.
21 measured endpoints received the same company domains and were scored on correct latest funding stage against source-verified funding events. That includes Crunchbase, measured from an exported dataset, alongside APIs and structured web research providers. Crunchbase's API remains sales-licensed; Harmonic is included from an audited supplied export. PitchBook and Tracxn serve private-market investor research, including PE workflows, rather than comparable self-serve GTM sales enrichment.
Moving off Crunchbase means replacing two things. The historical record you already query, and the rounds announced since you last looked. Both boards are below so a candidate can be checked on both before you commit, because strength on one does not carry over to the other.
The 16 measured providers are Apollo, CompanyEnrich, Crunchbase, Crustdata, Exa, Explorium, Fiber, Firecrawl, Fundable, Harmonic, Ocean.io, Parallel, People Data Labs, PredictLeads, Seltz, and ZoomInfo. Several are measured on more than one endpoint, for 21 arms in total.
Which alternatives keep up with new rounds.
The rolling board. If you are replacing Crunchbase because your records go stale, this is the board that answers it. This is the rolling freshness board, pooled across every dated snapshot, so each row carries the number of companies that provider was measured on. The company funding benchmark has other vendors that were benchmarked on the same input data. The methodology covers cohort design, Ground Truth and the judging rules.

How the alternatives actually scored.
Rounds already settled when each provider ran, which is the part of Crunchbase most teams are actually replacing. Crunchbase itself is left out of both boards here; its own result is on the benchmark, scored from a reviewed export because its funding API is sales-licensed. This is the funding enrichment board, scored on rounds that were already more than 30 days old when each provider ran. The company funding benchmark also carries the rolling freshness board. The methodology covers cohort design, Ground Truth and the judging rules.

Replacing a licensed dataset with something callable
- Swap the lookup. The direct replacement is an endpoint that takes a domain and returns a stage. Start from the access terms above, because most of the work is procurement rather than code.
- Keep the fields you relied on. Crunchbase returns a full funding record. If you used the date and amount as well as the stage, check the returned-fields measure before assuming a swap is like for like.
- Cover recent rounds. If part of why you kept Crunchbase was catching new raises, that is measured separately on the freshness board and the ranking there is different.
Harmonic, PitchBook and Tracxn: the verifiable access facts
Crunchbase's and Harmonic's export results are scored above. Their access terms remain useful context. PitchBook and Tracxn are geared to private-market investor research, including PE workflows, so they sit outside the self-serve GTM enrichment shape this benchmark tests. Their access model is stated here. No score is.
| Name | The verifiable fact | Source |
|---|---|---|
| PitchBook | Private-market intelligence for investor workflows, including PE research, funds, LPs, and deal analysis. Its API is a separate contracted Direct Data offering sold under an enterprise agreement, so it falls outside the self-serve GTM enrichment shape tested here. | their own page (2026-07-17) |
| Harmonic | Offers an API (REST/GraphQL) but publishes no self-serve per-unit pricing. The pricing page routes every plan, including API access, to a demo/sales conversation. | their own page (2026-07-17) |
| Tracxn / Dealroom / CB Insights | Private-market research and investor workflows, including PE diligence, rather than self-serve GTM sales enrichment; funding data arrives under contract rather than through a single API that can be scored per domain. | — |

Common questions about moving off Crunchbase
What makes an alternative a genuine replacement for Crunchbase funding data?
It has to answer the same question about the same company and be reachable the way your system works. That means a documented endpoint, a structured latest-stage answer, and access you can arrange yourself. The table above lists the endpoint and access terms for each option so you can rule out the ones that do not fit before testing.
Why is Crunchbase measured from an export rather than its API?
Its funding API sits behind a sales-licensed plan, so it was scored from a self-serve plan export matched to the same company identities. That keeps the correctness comparison fair. It also means Crunchbase carries no latency or cost figure, because nothing was timed or billed.
Does replacing Crunchbase mean losing coverage?
It depends which field you rely on. The benchmark judges the latest funding stage and separately records whether the date, amount, total raised and round count came back. A provider can name the right stage and return nothing else, which is fine for routing and not enough for writing a CRM record.
How does PitchBook compare for this job?
It is built for private-market research rather than per-domain enrichment, so it is out of scope here for the same reason Tracxn is. That is a statement about shape, and about whether a GTM system can call it per company, rather than about the quality of its data.
